PowerWatch begins to ship

powerwatchIt has taken less than a year after materials science pioneer Matrix Industries’ crowdfunding effort took off to great success, and now the shipment of its PowerWatch to initial backers has commenced. This highly sought after PowerWatch is touted to be the first device of its kind, in the sense where it is powered by the wearer’s body itself. This is the perfect demonstration of Matrix’s proprietary thermoelectric energy converter, where the energy harvesting performance of the PowerWatch can be attributed to a trio of key technical advances that are currently unmatched by existing technologies.

The PowerWatch will continue to work by feeding off your body heat, ensuring that recharging your timepiece is a thing of the past. When you take off the PowerWatch, your data will be stored in memory and it goes to sleep. Put back the PowerWatch, and the timepiece will turn right back on at the point where you left it. It is capable of figuring things out up to two years in idle mode, and there is always an always-on power meter which will inform you of the amount of electricity which your body heat is producing. This is starting to sound a whole lot like the Matrix, where we humans end up as batteries for the machines.

In fact, the PowerWatch is deemed to be the most accurate measure of calories burned on the market. It is made from rugged aircraft-grade aluminum, and this wearable device will be able to wirelessly synchronize with your smartphone, and performs automatic adjustments to the current time zone, tracks your steps, calories and sleep, and is water resistant up to 50 meters.

PowerWatch as well as the special edition PowerWatch Black Ops will start to ship to initial backers and will be available for purchase later this month with a starting price point of $199. Expect the premium PowerWatch X slated to ship before the year comes to an end. Talk about a truly different smartwatch!

New Blackjack watch is a beauty to behold

Timepieces are more of a fashion accessory these days than a tool that we use to tell the time. Sure, watches are useful to wear, but the traditional time telling method has been more or less made obsolete in the cities and urban areas thanks to our smartphones and computers that provide a constant reminder on what time it is. However, there is still room for watches, as smartwatches have proven that it is not going to phase out the old school timepieces, which is why we are excited to bring the Todd Snyder + Timex Blackjack Watch to the consciousness of everyone else.

Sporting a stealthy and sophisticated look, the all new Blackjack Watch from Todd Snyder and Timex has been inspired by a sporty 1970s style from the Timex archives. Of course, since we are in the new millennium and are about to call the second decade to a close, it has been updated in a modern blackout palette. This timepiece does have an edgy look to it, being the latest in an ongoing collaboration between the celebrated menswear designer and the iconic American watch brand. In fact, the Blackjack watch would pay homage to the stylish drivers of Formula One in the 1960s and 70s.

Sporting speed dials and roulette wheels, the Blackjack evokes the noir glamour of fast cars, hot tires and midcentury Monaco casinos, all encapsulated in a sleek New York style. The Todd Snyder + Timex Blackjack Watch will borrow distinctive details from that archival original, where there will be urbane updates in the form of a black finished case as well as a military inspired nylon strap. Looking good is not the only thing, as it has to function well, which is why it comes with features such as 50 meter water resistance and quartz movement.

The Blackjack Watch will retail for $138 apiece and is extremely versatile to be used regardless of the environment you are in.

New Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster boasts of quad sensor technology

When it comes to timepieces, there are three different categories. The first would be the functional one, where you do not have to spend too much money in order to acquire a regular timekeeping device on your wrist, while the second would fall under the luxurious range — one that costs a bomb, but is worth passing down to the next generation. Last but not least would be the tough-as-nails watches, and this is where Casio has long been an expert with their G-Shock collection. This time around, the spanking new Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster is touted to arrive with quad sensor technology, now how about that?

Also known by its model number of GWNQ1000-1A, this is a brand new model that will introduce Quad Sensor technology into its shell, which will see the addition of a water depth sensor to the watch for the first-time ever alongside the atmospheric pressure sensor (altimeter/barometer), temperature sensor (thermometer), and magnetic sensor for compass readings. Specially designed for coast guard officers and others who are extremely active at sea, this new addition to the Gulfmaster range is equipped to track changing ocean conditions and help users during intense rescue activities. After all, it would be a pity if the rescuer is in need of some rescuing, don’t you think so?

The Gulfmaster GWNQ1000-1A’s atmospheric pressure sensor will be able to help predict a sudden change in weather conditions, not to mention having its temperature sensor read changes in air and water temperature. The timepiece will also be accompanied by a magnetic sensor to help detect bearing, while the water depth sensor can measure an individual’s current depth under water. When they all work together, Voltron will not appear, but rather, the five sensor modes (altitude, atmospheric pressure, temperature, depth and compass bearing) can let the user assess changing ocean conditions in real time in order to swiftly rescue a person in need. All of the sensor modes can be displayed on the watch’s face, where a button is used to toggle between sensors on its side.

Expect the Gulfmaster GWNQ1000-1A to arrive in black with blue accents, where it will carry an asking price of $850 a pop from the beginning of next month onward.

Casio G-SHOCK introduces Vintage Gold theme To Master Of G

Casio is a name not to be reckoned with when it comes to two things — the calculator, as well as their range of G-Shock timepieces. Granted, these are not the only two things that the Japanese company is famous for, but this does not mean that they are darn good at the mentioned pair of areas. This time around, we will concentrate on the fact that a couple of new Vintage Gold models will make their debut under the Master of G collection.

The G-Shock range of watches have long lived up to their namesake, being tough as nails and more or less capable of surviving just about any extreme condition without missing a beat. The latest vintage-inspired black and gold color scheme would cover the new Gulfmaster model (GN1000GB-1A) and Mudmaster model (GG1000GB-1A), delivering a stylish, classic look and toughness at a price point that would not be a burden to your pockets.

The Mudmaster range of watches happen to fall within the Master of G Series that have been specially designed for land, sea and air, and are famous for their ability to withstand extreme conditions anywhere on earth — unless you decide to take a journey into the earth’s core and get burnt up along the way, of course.

With tools and machinery being the inspiration, the gold accents on both the GN1000GB-1A and GG1000GB-1A have been specially designed to arrive with a weathered look, presenting them as though they’ve gone through years of service.

For instance, the bezel on the Gulfmaster GN1000GB-1A does make one think of a ship’s porthole which has been unrelentlessly exposed to wind and rain, whereas the gold detail on the Mudmaster GG1000GB-1A happens to resemble that of tools that have been polished by digging in the ground.

Regardless of which model you select, both of them will come with Twin Sensor technology that makes them very unique. These sensors will be used to control compass bearing, not to mention to measure temperatures, while bearing memory that indicates the bearing from a starting point to a destination, so that you know you are not lost and on track. They will both feature an asking price of $320 each.
