Mobile Cinema DVD Projector

mobile-dvdNot many of us out there are fortunate enough to have enough money in order to have a cinema right smack in our sprawling mansion, although a decent home theater setup is quite common these days. How about moments when you need to keep yourself and your family entertained during an impromptu moment, but a portable DVD player just won’t quite cut the mustard due to the extremely small screen size? That’s where the Mobile Cinema DVD Projector comes in handy.

This idiot-proof LED projector features an integrated DVD player and built-in stereo speakers. Simply plug it in, bung in a disc and gawp in wonder as it beams a quality image (up to 50”) on the wall. Ideal for kids’ bedrooms, family get-togethers and movie night parties, the robust MCDVDP uses clever LED technology, so power consumption is low and lamp life is long. And because it’s portable you can move it between rooms with ease. You can even plug in a microphone for big screen karaoke sessions.

Don’t expect to view super high resolutions with this £159.99 purchase from Firebox though, as it isn’t meant to take the primary place of your home entertainment slot but instead is an alternative.

Speakal miSoccer speaker system

misoccer

You know that a particular market is extremely lucrative when there are tons of competition out there, case in point speaker systems as well as docking stations for the iPod family, all jostling for a slice of the financial pie assuming their product makes it to the best selling list. Speakal has such similar dreams of their own as well, having recently rolled out their latest addition from its family of High Fidelity Audio Speakers and iPod Docking stations, known as the miSoccer speaker system. Talk about a speaker system that has a kick of its own – it will also make a great gift idea for those who are absolutely nuts about soccer as the World Cup Finals will be held in South Africa next summer.

Despite looking as though it is some kid’s toy, the miSoccer doesn’t really compromise when it comes to performance, offering 23+ watts of high quality sound via a 15 watt subwoofer and two multi-way speakers. This ought to be enough to keep a small living room thumping with your favorite tunes, without running the risk of your neighbors complaining to the police to turn it down. You will also be pleasantly surprised to know that the miSoccer is compatible with all of the iPods as long as they have a dock connector. Other features include Humanized Touch Control, a remote control which can manage sound and its quality alongside controlling the docked iPod.

The miSoccer speaker system from Speakal retails for $119.99 a pop, although we do wish that something could be done about the external design as it looks rather cheap and plasticky despite paying more than a Benjamin for it. At least the spherical design does offer the strategic placement of speakers to produce a true 360° sound distribution – how about that for saving grace?

Sharper Image Portable Speaker System

Portable DockingThe Sharper Image is no stranger to clocks that double as iPod docks, like the Clock Radio we reported on the other day. This particular clock radio is made for travelers.

You can’t see this from the photo, but this L-shaped dock can fold up into a 12 X 3 rectangle, which is about the size of a hardback book. This convenient and portable shape can then be tucked into the included soft travel case, and the user can carry it around to wherever they go.

The Portable Speaker System sounds pretty good, considering it has 2.25 inch speakers that carry 3 watts each. It is powered by the AC Adapter, or four not included AAA batteries.

You can put the iPod and iPhone on the dock, and control it with the controls on the iPod or iPhone itself. The controls for setting the clock and alarm are located somewhat awkwardly underneath the base itself.

So not only can the user take an alarm with them wherever they go, but they can take their tunes as well. It doesn’t look like you can make the alarm ring to your favorite tune, though.

You can get The Sharper Image Portable Speaker System Dock for the iPhone and iPod on the Sharper Image site for about $99.99.

The Sharper Image Clock Radio is iPod/iPhone dock

00011007-z1I had a clock radio that was beside my bed all throughout the eighties, and this new Sharper Image Clock Radio dock for the iPod and iPhone reminds me of it.

I believe that part of Sharper Image’s re-launch is to make electronic products that are not only neat looking, but practical. And what could be more practical for life in the new millennium than an dock for the iPod or iPhone? Especially one that can double as an alarm clock.

With this Sharper Image Clock Radio, the user can wake up to the radio or some custom playlist, or just the usual beep tone. It also features a dual alarm and an auto off timer and nap feature that you can set 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes.

It is powered by two AA batteries (not included) or AC power, and the sound is to be expected from 2 inch speakers with 6 watts each. Of course, it does come with a handy remote control, that does include the battery. By the way, the remote has a snooze/nap button, which will make it easy to sleep through the alarm, doesn’t it?

You can get The Sharper Image Clock Radio Dock for the iPhone or iPod for about $99.99 on The Sharper Image site.

Sharper Image’s Rotating Speaker System for iPod and iPhone

Rotating Speaker SystemWhile I was at CES last January, I had a chance to view The Sharper Image’s new product line for their comeback for the fall, and the Rotating Speaker System was one of them.

Contrary to what its name implies, the Rotating Speaker System is not designed as an apparatus that spins your speakers, but is a speaker system for the iPod or iPhone.

So what does rotating have to do with it? Well, let’s say you have an iPhone, and you want to watch a movie on it. At the touch of a button, the Rotating Speaker System will turn the iPhone ninety degrees on its side so you can watch it in the proper format.

I had a chance to try it out for myself, and it does produce the “full, rich sound” that the box advertises. The illuminated controls are good for advancing or going back on playlist tracks, volume control, and play/pause. When the Rotating Speaker System is turned off, it starts charging the iPod/iPhone. This dock came with inserts for the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3G, the iPod touch (2nd generation), and iPod nano.

All in all, the Rotating Speaker System is a good system if you need an iPod or iPhone dock. The Sharper Image Rotating Speaker System should be available on October 15, wherever Sharper Image products are sold for a price of $79.99.

iHat

4862_image4_ihat1_femaleYes, there are a lot of iPod or other MP3 speakers out there, and most of them begin with “i”. I suppose what makes the iHat unique is the fact that it is seasonal.

Seasonal, meaning made for the winter season. It’s getting colder where I am living, and I could use a hat to keep warm. If the hat happens to have a speaker in each ear, then more power to it. Now if it was made to be wireless, I guarantee that every skier would want to wear one of these.

The iHat is compatible with anything that has a headphone jack, but I’m not certain how good the sound is. In fact, I was wondering if you could turn the hat inside out and use it as an iPod speaker and rock the room. The good news is that you don’t need batteries or any power but a charged iPod for the iHat.

Isn’t there some hip hop fashion that uses winter hats, all year round? Perhaps this iHat is for them. Doesn’t Emenim wear a hat like this? I really need to get more into modern day music these days.

Anyway, the iHat should be available from the BB shopping website for about $25 on December 14.

Altec Lansing’s Expressionist Ultra and the MIX

bothalproductsI got a chance to see what Altec Lansing was up to at CES last January, and its nice to see that they are still innovative with two new products: the Expressionist Ultra and the MIX.

The Expressionist Ultra is the set of speakers that you see to the left. As you can see, they have a very unique shape and transparent trapezoidal frame for a look that should compliment any desk. The speakers have a 200 watt powerhouse with a 3 inch midrange driver and 1 inch neodymium tweeter. The Expressionist Ultra also has fingertip controls, Audio Alignment technology, a headphone jack, and connects with AUX in jack and RCA adapter.

The MIX, seen to the immediate left, is a combination of iPod dock and 80’s style boombox. It is perfect for DJs-in-training as it has three music player inputs, a 30 pin dock connector for the iPhone and iPod, as well as two front-facing 3.5mm jacks. It plays for 30 hours on 8 D-cell batteries and has Audio Alignment, a Digital FM radio, and Dual AUX IN jacks for two additional audio players via front-facing 3.5mm jacks.

The Expressionist Ultra and the MIX should be available in the Fall. The Expressionist Ultra will be for $199.95, and the MIX Boom box/iPod dock will be for $299.99.
