The Dexim DWP005 Hub Dock Station
Posted by admin in Audio Gadgets, iPod Gadgets on May 22nd, 2009

Instead of just plugging your usual iPod cord into your computer, there is now this Dexim DWP005. In some ways it initally looks like it’d just take up space. However, it’s slim, it’d keep your iPhone/iPod in the upright position, plus best of all it has other devices built into it. Giving you even more functions and a nice sleek dock to pop your iPod into. Since it is so sleek, you have the added perk of it being easy to just toss into your laptop bag for traveling purposes.
In addition to being a charger, it has a memory card reader and a 3-port USB hub built-in. Plus it has provided cables that work for devices that use micro and mini USB ports to recharge, such as the Blackberry. All around it gives quite a lot of function on a very small device. Sadly though, it is a bit pricey. It’ll cost you $69.99, which does seem a bit on the steep side. However, it offers quite a bit of functionality for that price.

Nest Box with IR Camera
Posted by admin in Audio Gadgets on May 22nd, 2009
Is there anything more bonding to a father/son relationship than the building of a birdhouse? Maybe before the digital age, but now the birdhouse has been made technologically efficient.
As you can see, this nest box has tiny camera inside of it, so you can actually see what is going on inside of it. It is an IR camera, so you can view what is going on during the night and the day.
This camera also has a transmitter with a range of 328 feet to the included base station. This base station can be connected to any display with RCA input, and you can watch a nest like it was a Discovery Channel program.
Of course, there is no guarantee that you will have some good footage of the birdies with this peeping tom camera. I wonder if the birds have any idea that they and their babies are on a reality TV show. You might want to figure out a way to record it, as you could easily miss the episode where the eggs hatch.
You will have to connect the camera to a power supply, unless you want to use the battery pack. By the way, the battery pack is only good for about two hours. The Nest Box with IR Camera is available at the Pro-Idee site for about $211.

DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC
Posted by admin in Audio Gadgets on May 22nd, 2009

Asus will be offering new motherboards from the P5Q Turbo and M4 Series that boast the DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC feature. Granted, we too haven’t really heard about what DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC is all about so here’s a quick primer.
DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC uses advanced post-processing technology to deliver an incredible surround effect from just two speakers or headphones. The post-processing contains significant psycho-acoustic information that alters human perception, making one believe that sounds are actually occurring outside the boundaries of the two-speaker system or headphones. Developed with a key understanding of acoustics and years of knowledge in dealing with the properties of sound, DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC creates a three-dimensional wall of sound that exceeds the limitations of just two speakers for an optimal surround sound experience. DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC also supplements the weakened stereo image and ambience of digitally compressed audio, while keeping the monaural components (such as solo vocals) unchanged.
Sounds like something worth having in our computers, although for the masses, the current crop of integrated audio system is more than adequate to cater to their aural needs.

LG HB954TBW Blu-Ray Player includes iPod dock
Posted by admin in Audio Gadgets, iPod Gadgets on May 22nd, 2009
Sometimes the most ingenious technological advances are really the most obvious. Case in point, the LG HB954TBW Blu-ray 5.1 Home Theater Combo.
I am assuming that it is called a Combo because this Blu-Ray player has a unique feature of a slide-out iPod dock. This feature really is obvious, really. Does anyone know if this is the first Blu-Ray player to offer such a painfully obvious feature? I would have thought that an iPod dock would have been a standard in all DVD players by now.
Unfortunately, my sources don’t have much information about the HB954TBW other than that. Most of them have said that it accepts all iPod models, but it is sketchy about whether or not it will accept the iPhone.
However, the real question is whether or not this will play video content from the iPod on the player. The next question would be what quality the video would be?
According to my source, the LG HB954TBW was on display at CES. However, I remember visiting the LG booth, and I don’t remember seeing it there at all. Well, it did take up a lot of conference space.
We do know one thing: the price. It should be about $1,000, and it will only be sold in Korea.

The iRock Mini Guitar Amp works as iPod speaker
Posted by admin in Audio Gadgets, iPod Gadgets on May 22nd, 2009
There are times that those of you that are skilled with playing the guitar, that you don’t want to lug out your full sized amp. That’s where this iRock would come in handy. It’s not going to be anything overly special, but it does make it so that you can hear your electric guitar either through the speaker or through headphones. Making it ideal for a quiet practice session that won’t disturb anyone. Plus it does double duty by doubling as an iPod speaker.
Since it does hook up to your iPod as well, it’d definitely be worth the money. As far as amp specifications go it has all the usual features, including an overdrive distortion and volume control. It plugs directly into your guitar, and there is no extra cord needed. Then if you want to be even more quiet, just pop some headphones into the speaker. For $24.95, it’d be worth picking up to give it a try.
