iPod Nano Case with built-in Notepad

This case manages a cool combination of not only being useful in more than one way, but in disguising your Nano.  For most people it would just look like a notebook, but once you open it up there is a compartment to fit your Nano.  The notebook part would be useful to either doodle or to make quick notes about things you need to remember for later.  It’d be great for anyone that’s addicted to constantly taking notes for various reasons.

The outer part of the case is made of leather, which makes this notebook look even nicer.  It also has a built-in hole to plug in your earbuds or a speaker.  These come from a Danish company called Scripta.  Hopefully they created the case so that it was easy to replace the notepad for when it has gotten too low.  The notepads come in various color combinations, ranging from bright colors to black.  It will fit the iPod Nano 3G and you can pick it up from Scripta for 139 DKK or about $27.

Lava Lamp for the iPhone

The iPhone has received yet another interesting function - while it won’t be able to save the world (yet) or change your flat tire on the freeway, it is able to illuminate your life as a lava lamp thanks to Gotham Wave Games who came up with the Lava Lamp application for the iPhone. What makes this more interesting is you are able to push the lava around the screen with your fingers, taking advantage of the iPhone’s multi-touch display. This makes it possible to push blobs together and merge them or pull them apart, whichever you fancy. Sounds fun, although it lacks the feeling of the actual texture but we’ll overlook that at this point in time. You can download the iLava application for $0.99.

Fusion CA-IP500: Next Generation of iPod Compatible Car Stereos?

It is not surprising that most new car models come complete with iPod compatibility on their stereos. However, most of these iPod compatible stereos usually just have a place to plug in the cable, which makes it awkward for the driver.

After all, many countries have laws that allow only hands-free phones, to prevent accidents from distraction. Yet what is more distracting for a driver than changing tracks on their iPod while behind the wheel? Another issue with this type of iPod cable set-up is theft. If a driver parks his or her car and leaves the iPod attached to the cable, it makes a tempting target for thieves.

I suppose this is why Fusion created the CA-IP500, which will literally swallow your iPod whole. This will allow the iPod playlist to be broadcasted through the car’s stereo system, and it can be accessed via the minimally distracting CA-IP500’s controls, which resemble iPod controls.

Other features include a dot-matrix OLED display, SRS Wos sound shaping, AM/FM tuner, 7-band equalizer, and it has a security code so only the driver can access his or her iPod. By the way, the CA-IP500 can also charge your iPod when it sits inside.

The CA-IP500 is priced at about $349, and is compatible with the iPod Touch Gen1 and Gen2, the iPod Classic Gen5, Gen6, Gen7, and the iPod Nano Gen2, Gen3 and Gen4.

The iLuv iPhone Dual Dock with weather alerts

I have one of the later models of iLuv and so far have found it extremely convenient.  Especially since I tend to flake on charging my iPod.  Well now iLuv is offering a new gadget for us to drool over.  This one has found its way to this year’s CES and won’t be out for a few more months, but they at least released a  few details to draw in our interest.  The dock has all the usual convenient speccs but with one extra to sweeten the deal.  One great perk is that  iMM183 will work with both your iPhone and iPod at the same time.  That is as long as you have a 4th Gen or later iPod.

It features dual docks to help those of you that have both or a significant other with one as well.  The dock has the regular features like a built-in alarm clock and is able to play your iPod/iPhone through the built-in speakers.  It also has an FM radio and of course a way to plug in any other audio devices you have around.  It also has an extra feature to do with the weather this time around.  It has support for weather text alerts from NOAA and SAME that will automatically come through on the preset radio channels.  It allows you to archive as many as 10 notices for ongoing situations as well as has an LED warning to show when there is a new alert.  So far there is no price released, but it will be available in March.

Teac’s New iPod Docking Station

New iPod docks are a dime a dozen. (Actually, iPod docks are usually more expensive than that, but my point is the numerous models and not the price.) In short, there isn’t much to say about any new iPod dock when it hits the market. This one that you see here is from Teac, and the TD-X300i looks like it might stand out in a few areas.

Let’s get the specs out of the way first. The TD-X300i supports CD-R/RW and MP3 audio files. The dock itself is compatible with all iPods from the fourth generation.

Some of you may have noticed the unique speaker configuration. It has a subwoofer with a maximum output power of 5Wx2 + 15W. You might also have noticed how flat the other peripheral speakers are, and they are a product of NXT technology.

I’ve been hearing a lot about NXT technology lately. I believe that they have invited me to their breakfast at CES, and I am anxious to see what else they have to offer. Stay tuned for that article.

Speaking of CES, Teac would be insane not to have the TD-X300i on display at Las Vegas this year. Especially when the new iPod docking station is planned to be released in January 2009 anyway. The price is reported to be at €235.

The iHome iHL64 Lamp plays your iPod

We’ve mentioned before that iHome would be rolling out a new line of lamps that would connect to your iPod. Well iHome is showing this one off at this year’s CES. The lamp would be great to put next to your favorite chair and listen to your music. It would also be nice for dorm rooms or those that just have tiny apartments. Granted depending on your situation it might be better to find a floor lamp that does the same thing. However, I’m sure you could find a desk or dresser to place this on. It thankfully also comes in several different colors.

The lamp comes not only in the silver shown here, but black, aqua, green, red, yellow, orange, purple, pink and blue. The lamp will charge as well as play your iPod through 6W speakers. It will of course play other audio devices, they just won’t be able to sit on the dock and charge. You can purchase it on Light Accents for $89.99. Which is a little pricey, but it seems like most iPod accessories tend to be that way.

TruPhone update brings phone, IM to iPod touch

iPod Touch

The latest update to the TruPhone VOIP/IM software brings the iPod touch into the community of supported devices and adds Skype compatibility.

Similar to Skype, Truphone allows users to contact other Truphone users for free and landlines around the world for not a lot.

Unlike Skype, Truphone also allows you to talk or chat to your contacts on other services including gTalk and Skype making it a complete communications solution. Plus it works on the touch (you’ll need a separate headset to provide the mic though).

The Tunebug and other fun with NXT Technology

Some of you may remember when I reported on Teac’s new iPod Docking Station that uses the NXT flat speaker system. Ever since then, I just keep running into NXT products. Last night, I opened the Soundbag that I received from the Sharper Image party, and the NXT logo was there.

This morning, I attended the NXT breakfast at CES and I discovered another nifty product that uses NXT’s Surface Surround Sound technology. The Tunebug, designed by Silicon Valley Global, has the unique ability to turn any flat surface into a speaker.

In order to prove this, Dick Brown, president of Silicon Valley Global, placed the Tunebug on an ordinary piece of cardboard. He held the cardboard out like a tiny diving board, and I could hear clear sound as the flat surface became a speaker.

The Tunebug has a Micro SD Card that can store up to 500 music files for up to five hours of playing time. The company also showed me how the Tunebug can be attached magnetically to a motorcyclist’s helmet, so he or she can hear music as he or she is riding on the road. Not only can it play music independently, but it can be hooked up to an iPod and act as a speaker.

Unfortunately, Silicon Valley Global was not able to give me a release date for this product. The only thing they say in their Press Kit is “Stay Tuned”.
