Nintendo Warns That Wii U Network IDs Can Be Transferred During Repairs

Nintendo, after being requested for far too many times by their users, has finally shared and admitted up front that the Wii U network IDs can actually be transferred from one console to another. Just before that aghast face shows up, bear in mind that this will only be able to happen at a repair facility. Of course, this is a very different story from the assumption that many folks have, where a Wii U owner’s online account, accompanied by the range of eShop purchases and membership information, will be tied down to a specific console.

When approached by the folks over at Kotaku concerning further details on the transfer of Wii U accounts between different Wii U consoles, Nintendo replied, “Nintendo of America’s repair process includes the transferring of the Nintendo Network ID to a new Wii U console if a replacement system is needed.”

As a Nintendo Wii U owner, what do you think you can expect from the entire scenario? We do keep our fingers crossed that Nintendo would announce future plans for their network in due time, but at the moment, it might be more prudent to postpone any eShop purchases, no matter how strong the impulse to make purchases are. After all, locking up your Wii U in a protective cage or box could also work, although that would lean more on the extreme side, but at least it would do its bit in preventing any unfortunate accidents from happening.

On the other hand, the transferrable data is a good thing when you think about it. Should the particular Wii U console fail to work, Nintendo is capable of recovering such information, albeit taking a specific and unclear manner. I guess there are some secrets that need to be kept by the Big N just in case of an emergency, don’t you think so?
