The office environment – some folks love it, others hate it. In fact, there are always several “obstacles and challenges” that tend to get to some more than the others. One thing is for sure, it is rather difficult to find an office environment where there are no politics played out. Just in case you find someone whom it is rather difficult to get along with, you might want to irritate that person with the $9.95 Crazy Combat Catapults.
Forget about the government checking out whether you have a stash of weapons in your backyard or garage – let them know directly that you have the ability to build your own weapons as well as destroy your opponents. With the Crazy Combat Catapults, you would end up with enough bits and pieces to construct a couple of catapults that seem to hail from a steampunk era, and use them to lob some ammunition at targets. The instruction manual itself does not only let you build a catapult, but also offers some background information on catapult history. Each purchase comes with a couple of catapults, 9 targets, a phone missile and the instruction book.

LG Electronics has announced a brand new speaker system which will boast a minimalist design while offering a huge audio boost to your home entertainment center, calling it the LG SoundPlate. Having revealed at CEDIA 2013, the LG SoundPlate, carrying the model number LAP340, is said to help usher in a new generation of home theater audio systems and it has been optimized for today’s flat-panel HDTVs.
Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, home entertainment, LG Electronics USA, said, “The tradeoff for the ultra thin TV design has been smaller speakers, which has led to a surge in demand for supplementary home audio devices. We’re augmenting our already robust line of soundbars with the LG SoundPlate to give consumers yet another alternative for powerful home entertainment sound in a compact, attractive design.” So that’s how we know where they are coming from.
The LG SoundPlate will work its magic by providing high-quality audio while maintaining an aesthetic that is minimally obtrusive. It has a profile of just 1-3/8 inches (35 millimeters) high, but do not be fooled as the LG SoundPlate will come equipped with a robust 4.1 channel sound system that is complete with dual built-in subwoofers.
Apart from that, there is also a 120W output that has been boosted by a unique internal structure alongside LG’s proprietary acoustic tuning system, making it easier for everyone to hear dialog and other discrete sounds whenever they are watching TV shows or movies. Not just content with that, the LG SoundPlate will also feature LG’s Bass Port system that helps lower harmful vibrations from within the speaker enclosure.
When set to LG’s Cinema Mode, it will optimize the LAP340′s surround sound capabilities, resulting in an immersive field of multidirectional audio. Additional functionality can be found in LG’s Sound Sync, which is driven by Bluetooth capabilities, allowing users to pair the device with other compatible devices – phones included, so that users are able to stream music sans wires when in range. Talk about another cable clutter reducing measure!
There is no word on pricing as at press time, but the LAP340 LG SoundPlate is tipped to arrive via US retailers from October onward.

How many of you absolutely loved to spend your time at video game arcades when you were much younger, without stuff like rising household debt, a never ending mortgage to clear, not to mention daily expenses that seem to bite into your savings all the time that you miss the carefree moments of your youth? Here is a thought – ever thought of being a video game arcade proprietor? Perhaps you can start small (I am relatively speaking here of course) with the $8,999.99 Dead Heat arcade cabinet that can be laid right smack in the middle of your living room.
Dead Heat has been described to be one of “the most intense driving game you’ll ever experience.” It really depends on your preference, but anything to do with high speeds certainly gets my vote. To get started, pick a car, choose a city, and of course, rev your engines afterwards. Dead Heat carries a patented technology that will be smart enough to capture your driving style, letting you become a computer opponent in future races. This means when your mates are not around, you can also race against their virtual selves, so to speak. I am not quite sure how eight licensed, customizable cars and four actual cities will last long on the novelty scale, but you should start to recoup your investment by collecting quarters from family and friends who drop by.

When it comes to the world of speakers, there are just way too many different models to choose from. The thing is, if you are in for some wireless audio fun, you might want to check out a couple of offerings from iWALK – the new Sound Angle and Sound Angle Mini. Both of these will play nice with all Bluetooth equipped devices, where the speakers are more than capable of delivering heart pumping audio via a stylishly compact design. Needless to say, it will be a large step compared to conventional Bluetooth speaker designs; as the Sound Angle and Sound Angle Mini will take advantage of modish form factors alongside a bunch of joyful shades. The kind of design incorporated would seamlessly include both volume and track control buttons, in addition to a 3.5mm auxiliary input so that users who do not have Bluetooth-enabled devices are still able to use it to play music from such sources, such as older school MP3 players and DVD/CD players among others.
Harris Bernstein, vice president of sales and marketing for iWALK, shared, “We designed the Sound Angle and Sound Angle Mini to be portable and sleek, but to still deliver the same sound quality found in bigger and more expensive speakers.” The Sound Angle Mini could be used to describe the proverb, “Do not judge a book by its cover”, where it delivers amazing power in a compact design. The internal battery delivers up to 4 hours of continuous music playback, while a microSD memory card slot is able to support MP3 format music to deliver direct music playback. Apart from that, it will automatically select shuffle play whenever it uses the microSD memory card.
As for the Sound Angle, this particular speaker delivers superb clarity and robust sound in a surprisingly lightweight and stylish design. Not only that, it comes with a convenient stand which is capable of supporting any tablet or smartphone. There is also an auxiliary input so that you are able to play music from external sources, where among them include MP3 players and DVD/CD players. There is also a built-in microphone which transforms the unit into a speakerphone.
The Sound Angle Mini will arrive in black, white, gray, yellow, red and hot pink shades for $39.99 a pop, while the Sound Angle will cost you $129.99 a pop, as it comes in an array of black, gray, cobalt blue, red and yellow colors.
When the iPhone 5s was first announced, one of the things that blew away the audience was the fact that its 64-bit processor, working in tandem with some great coding, could deliver some high quality graphics in a game. Of course, a full touchscreen display is not going to be optimal when it comes to some of the more complex games out there, not to mention you would always have a finger (or two) appearing on the display, blocking out your view in select parts that might just dampen your portable gaming experience. What is needed would be a physical controller, and this is where the GameCase iOS game controller comes in handy.
The GameCase is meant to propel mobile gaming to unprecedented heights, where it will redefine the way games are played on the iPad as well as iPhone. Harnessing the power of iOS 7 as well as Apple’s new MFi controller framework, you can more or less say that GameCase is here to usher in a new era of mobile gaming. Whenever you game on your iOS 7-powered device with the GameCase hooked up, it offers a natural and familiar console quality feel. Sporting a couple of analog sticks and tactile buttons, it would be able to provide an increased level of accuracy and precision.
Apart from that, there is also a thoughtfully crafted design as well as non-slip rubber surface which will alleviate fatigue, paving the way for hours of comfortable and competitive play – as long as your device’s battery lasts, of course. Right now, GameCase and iOS developers are working together in order to roll out exciting new games which will be able to take advantage of the device’s incredible features.
There is still no word on pricing just yet, however, but would you be willing to pick up the GameCase when it is finally made available to the masses?

I guess everyone knows by now that I’m a huge fan of subscription services. I love using Netflix and Amazon Prime for my movies, I use a service for my music too. Sure, I have a Roku Player, Internet TV and everything else that lets me sift through tons on content in the blink of an eye. The more the better, but what about my e-reader? When it comes to that, I pretty much get just one book at a time…
To be honest, my e-reader is dead in a drawer somewhere, in favor of my iPod, which has exactly one book on it… until now. Check out Oyster, the new subscription service for big readers. Oyster gives you one-tap access to an endless supply of well designed books, with beautiful (customizable) typography and the ability to share your favorites with your friends, and even get recommendations. Oyster offers all this, and, unlimited access to over 100,000 books, all for under 10 bucks a month, with new titles being added all the time.
I guess some folks start a book and stick with it until its finished, but I find that sometimes, I like a little variety in my reading material. I believe that having so many options will inspire me to read even more. Oyster has a heck of a lot to offer, from Michael Crichton to J.R.R. Tolkien and everything in between, including kids books, complete with color illustrations. I’m loving it.
So, if you’re a huge reader, or you simply aspire to be one, head on over to Oysterbooks.com and sign up for your special invitation, or just get some more information. You’ll be so glad you did. Oyster is currently only available for your iPhone, and here in the United States, but an iPad version should be available to us later this Fall, no word yet on international availability. Let’s let our gadget-riddled brains relax with a few good books, shall we?

Video game consoles – those have been playing nanny to your kids all summer long for as long as one can remember. Of course, the Atari 2600 has been a reference point for many of us older folk, before we “graduated” to the likes of the NES, and that was before the 16-bit revolution turned the world upside down with its snazzy graphics (and of course, the gameplay did go some way in helping keep us glued in front of the TV screen). Fast forward to this day and age, where Full HD graphics are considered to be compulsory if a game were to “make it”, so to speak. We also know that two highly anticipated consoles will roll out in the US before the year is over – the Xbox One from Microsoft, and the PS4 from Sony. What happens when you have an inkling for a blast from the past? This is where Hyperkin’s RetroN 5 console comes in, where it has been tagged with a December 10, 2013 official release date.
The RetroN 5 will certainly love to accept the entire collection of old school game cartridges, since it will be compatible with the following old school consoles – NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA cartridges. I guess it is time to break open that box in the attic, blow the dust off, and then start giving it a go to roll back those years with your first memory of Mario Kart racing, or the incorporation of Mode 7 on SNES titles. The RetroN 5 will be released in the US as well as Europe, where it will retail for $99.99 Stateside, while our friends living across the pond will have to pay €89.99.
Since the RetroN 5 was showcased at E3 earlier this year, some key modifications were made to the console, where the shell design would pave the way for better ventilation so that its innards remain nice and cool for a longer time, not to mention making concessions to use the Sega Power Base Converter so that owners of the RetroN 5 are able to enjoy Master System cartridges as well. The RetroN 5 is capable of bypassing any irritating region locks, so go ahead and game away! All purchases will arrive with an AC adapter that is accompanied by a quartet of head sockets to have it fit multiple regions, where the voltage will range from 110 to 240 volts.
