Sceptre SB301524W Speaker Sound Bar 2.1

When someone mentions the name “Sceptre”, what comes into your mind? I am quite sure that many of us are well acquainted with Sceptre’s range of LED TVs that deliver plenty of bang for your hard earned buck, and this has somewhat raised the confidence of the general cost conscious populace in this relative newcomer to the home theater/audio visual arena. This time around, the folks over at Sceptre has something slightly different for us as your eyes would not be the ones entertained, but rather, your auditory canals, in the form of the Sceptre SB301524W Speaker Sound Bar 2.1.

The Sceptre SB301524W Speaker Sound Bar 2.1 will boast of a built-in subwoofer, in addition to being powered by Google’s Android operating system while sporting Wi-Fi connectivity so that your run-of-the-mill HDTV can be “transformed” into a smart TV of sorts, thanks to the wonders of plug and play technology. I suppose the total cost of ownership for a smart TV has now been lowered across the board with this Sceptre offering, although it should not come with a similar level of integrated performance as Samsung or LG’s own range of dedicated Smart TVs. Still, something is better than nothing, right?

With the inclusion of Android’s interactive media operating system, you should be able to take advantage of the perfect entertainment atmosphere, as you are now able to access the Google Play Store, where the doors have been opened for you to download thousands of songs, games, movies and apps to add to your TV viewing experience. Something tells me that Angry Birds are going to see a spike of downloads and installations in the days and weeks ahead, if the Sceptre SB301524W Speaker Sound Bar 2.1 sees a large number of sales.

Features of the $299.99 Sceptre SB301524W Sound Bar 2.include a 35W subwoofer with passive radiator, SRS WOW HD audio technology, dual front facing speakers, a trendy touch sensor control panel, and an optional smart remote control which is capable of offering a navigational experience which is on par with that of a traditional mouse and keyboard. Any one of our dear readers are interested in this bad boy?

Handibot – the iPower Tool of the Future?

In high school, I was the girl that didn’t take home economics. I took wood shop, and still remember the day my friends and I got caught duct taping a circular saw to a railing to use as a make shift table saw. Yes, I’m lucky I still have all my fingers and both eyes, I eventually passed that class, but I never made more than a toothbrush holder. Power tools, my how the times are changing.

Check out this award winning Kickstarter project, the Handibot,  an app controlled, robotic power tool that is portable, digitally-controlled and used for cutting, drilling, carving, and many other useful and creative machining operations. This Handibot tool is actually run from a smartphone or tablet, or even a  PC and is useful for the do-it-yourselfer, or the professional for both creative and precision work.

The Handibot uses something called CNC technology, and if that term is unfamiliar to you then just think of the Handibot  as a ’3D Cutter’ that will allow you to cut, drill, and carve in wood, plastic, and aluminum with computer-controlled precision and repeatability. Ahh.. so much better than a circular saw and duct tape.

Simply purchase the job appropriate app and download it to your smartphone or tablet and input your desired settings, click the load button, thereby sending the info to your Handibot which will in turn signal you with a blinking warning light, letting you know you can squeeze the start button and let the magic begin. So let your creativity flow, and be one of the first to have a Handibot for around 2400 bucks. Head over to kickstarter.com to watch a video, learn more about this amazing tool, or snag one for yourself.

Meteor smartwatch by Kreyos

When it comes to the smartwatch industry, you could say that this is still a young market which is relatively untapped, but finding the correct killer combination of hardware as well as software is the secret recipe that has yet to be discovered. Sure, Android has their champion in the form of the Pebble timepiece, and there are also whispers that Apple might come up with an iOS-powered iWatch. Still, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, which is why the Meteor smartwatch by Kreyos is an interesting proposition. It is an Indiegogo project at the moment, and will play nice with Apple’s iOS, while boasting voice and gesture control support to boot.

The Meteor will feature a three-axis gyro, carry an accelerometer and other motion sensors which are capable of detecting things like wrist motion. The wrist motion detection can be customized so that you will be able to effect the right response with a movement which you are most comfortable with. Voice control would also come in handy during those moments when both of your hands are occupied.

ECOROX lets you rock out in the water

Isn’t it amazing to see how far technology has come over the years? Look at your cellphone, then look back at what you had 10 years ago. If you did have a mobile phone, it did little more than simply place and receive calls. Now it can do more functions than your PC, PDA, and another dozen devices combined. Unfortunately, what it still can’t do is survive a quick dunk in the pool. Sure, there are watertight cases, but those tend to impede your ability to do things like listen to music, because the speakers are covered. What you need is a large, portable, waterproof speaker.

The ECOROX is a portable Bluetooth speaker that can not only survive a quick dip in the pool, it can hang out in there, blasting your favorite tunes for hours. This set of 6 watt stereo speakers is housed in a waterproof body, and designed to float beside you. Just pair it with your smartphone sitting safely away from the water, and you can rock out to your favorite tunes without any risk. You’ll even be able to take calls at the press of a button, so you never miss a call.

If swimming isn’t your thing, and you’re more of a biker, this device works for you, too. The ECOROX was designed to be mounted to the handlebars of a bike. Never again will you have to worry about the elements harming your speakers. Of course, you’ll still have to worry about upsetting the people around you, if your music is up too loud as you ride past.

You’re going to get 10 hours of talk or playtime out of each 2.5 hour charge. Recharging is handled by a micro-USB cable, and a standard 3.5mm jack offers compatibility with virtually any audio device. You can purchase your own in black, red, or orange for just $130. You can find a handlebar or suction cup mount on the site for just $10 each, as well.

LeapFrog announces LeapPad Ultra for kids

Monkey see, monkey do – or so the saying goes. One of the best ways that kids learn is through emulation, which is why it is very important for parents not to mix things up with the mantra, “Do as I say, not as I do”, as that tends to confuse the little ones who are introduced to hypocrisy through the very same person(s) who are meant to shape their values and worldview in the right direction. Having said that, if Junior has seen dad or mom carrying an iPad all day long, surely it won’t be long before they too, start to hanker after a tablet of their own? This is where LeapFrog steps in, by announcing the all new LeapPad Ultra. The LeapPad Ultra is a kid-tough tablet that will play nice with LeapFrog’s unique library of over 800 life-changing content experiences which were specially designed or approved by LeapFrog’s learning experts.

In fact, the LeapPad Ultra is kid-ready right out of the box, thanks to LeapSearch by Zui, which happens to be a proprietary kid-safe web browser which parents are able to place their trust in. Not only that, you can also find the only 7” DUO TECH high-resolution screen on the LeapPad Ultra, where it was designed to help children learn to write using a stylus while supporting a slew of interactive touch experiences. Apart from that, LeapPad Ultra also boasts of a sleek new look, a long-lasting rechargeable battery, two cameras – one in the front and another at the back cameras, and video recording capability, all accompanied by 8GB of internal memory.

There are also new intuitive parental tools such as a four-digit security code so that parents will always have a semblance of control over the kind of content that their little ones are able to access, while Wi-Fi allows them to directly synchronize content to their child’s LeapPad Ultra. Parents are able to browse, purchase and download apps from LeapFrog’s library of games, apps, eBooks, videos, music and more. The LeapPad Ultra will retail for $149.99 a pop, and downloads have been priced at $5 and above, while game cartridges are more expensive at $24.99.

Retro Digital Flip Clock takes you back in time

If you’ve been around the block a few times, then you’ll understand just how much technology has changed over the years. Just look at something as simple as your average alarm clock. These days most of them are digital, with glowing numbers staring back at you. If you go back and look at one that say, your parents had as a kid, you’d probably see one of two things. Either they had a clock with hour, minute and second hands, much like your average wall clock, or one with flip-down numbers.

If you want to pretend that you’re living in the days of old, without actually having to search out a decades-old device, you might want to check out the Retro Digital Flip Clock. This small alarm clock has a similar feel to what you would have found in the 70′s. It even simulates the individual leaves that flip down when the minutes change.

The digital numbers are displayed on an LCD face, and should you need to look at it during the night, just tap the button on top to activate the backlight. This retro timepiece comes in red, orange, and white, and can be yours for just $49.
