Razer BlackWidow returns to dominate the gaming keyboard scene

It is rather disappointing to see just how Michael Phelps is a shadow of his former self in Beijing 2008 at this year’s Olympics, and everyone loves a happy ending, so I hope that the most decorated Olympian will have his chance to increase his medal haul before the summer Olympics is over. As for the world of gaming hardware, you can say that Razer has come up with peripherals that have dominated the scene for quite some years, and the Razer BlackWidow can be an example worth citing. This time around, the Razer BlackWidow is said to be locked and loaded for more mechanical domination in the gaming keyboard market.

The latest evolution of the Razer BlackWidow family will include a couple of improved models, as well as one totally new edition which will certainly tempt gamers to see whether their coffers have the relevant amount of dough to bring one of these puppies home. Touted to be the “World’s Best Mechanical Keyboard Series”, Razer claims that it has just got better – which is something that we will look at in closer detail after the jump.

The first update in the mechanical keyboard series which has long been famous for its crisp, tactile actuation and gaming-grade responsiveness, would be the Razer BlackWidow 2013, where it will come with heightened anti-ghosting and Razer Synapse 2.0 cloud technology. The Razer BlackWidow 2013 series’ enhanced anti-ghosting allows it to support up to 10 simultaneous key presses in game mode, not to mention coming with other improvements such as an anti-fingerprint matte black finish surface.

As for the new BlackWidow Ultimate 2013, do note that the name “Ultimate” will convey a sense of superiority over the rest of the crowd. This model, too, will be able to showcase improved anti-ghosting that supports 10 simultaneous key presses in gaming mode, in addition to a soft pronounced tap and distinctive tactile feedback for gaming purposes. There is also an enriched backlight that ensures you are able to quickly spot the keys that you want to press in the event of a frenzied gaming moment, even when the light condition around you is deemed to be poor.

Last but not least, the all-new BlackWidow Tournament Edition will be a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard that sports a simple, elegant form factor, making it ideal for portability. It has no numpad to speak of, and the layout is light and highly compact, making it ideal for non-accountants and those who have an extremely limited amount of desk space.

The asking price? We are looking at $139.99 or €139.99, depending on which side of the pond you reside on.

The Future Glucose Monitoring – The “Eyes” Have it

There certainly have been some advances in the way diabetics test their blood sugar levels. Glucose monitors have gotten more compact, the amount of blood needed for an accurate test has gotten much smaller. iDevices have been thrown into the fold with special apps for keeping track and sending results to your doctor. Heck they’re even developing a tattoo that changes color in response to your glucose levels, but what we really want is a way to accurately check those levels without having to be stuck with a needle… ever.

Well, scientists at the University of Michigan as well as a biomedical engineer at Arizona State just might have some answers to the kinds of devices we’ve been waiting for, the U of M scientists have developed a sensor that is able to detect diluted levels of glucose in the tears of animals, and Dr. Jeffry Labelle from Arizona State is working with the Mayo Clinic in order to develop a device that you simply press against the white part of your eye in to check your levels. Now that’s what I’m talking about.

Dr. Labelle’s device boasts an accuracy the same as blood testing, the material is easier to gather than a blood sample, is painless, and requires only that a test strip be held against the white of your eye. Unfortunately, presently the sample requires swift handling and immediate measurement to get those accurate results, so thats where the scientists have their work cut out for them. They are now working to make this painless test  more user friendly and consistent. Never fear however, their diligent work looks like it could payoff sooner than you think, and the device could be in your hands in as little as 2 – 5 years. Wouldn’t that be great?

Razer Ouroboros piles on the gaming pressure

Gamers, take note! There is a new piece of hardware in town, and if you feel that you have not been lethal enough towards your opponents thus far and would like to do something about the situation, then you will not go too wrong with the Razer Ouroboros. On paper, the Razer Ouroboros does seem to carry just about anything and everything which you need to achieve utter gaming domination regardless of the genre, so here we are with the Razer Ouroboros in all of its glory, where you can read further about its specifications and performance capabilities right after the jump.

I must say, however, that for Razer to churn out the Ouroboros as an an ergonomic and ambidextrous mouse should be noted, especially for southpaws like me who have long “suffered” when it comes to hardware choices, as many of the hardware released to date seem to cater more towards the right handed folks, with very few versions of the same peripheral coming in a left-handed model.

Well, let us get to the nitty gritty. The Razer Ouroboros is an elite gaming mouse which is said to be able to “evolve” – thanks to its fully-customizable ergonomics which can be adjusted for any hand size and grip style. After all, your gaming grip on the mouse is a very personal matter, as everyone holds their gaming mouse differently. The Razer Ouroboros was specially designed for precision gaming, boasting of an adjustable palm rest that can move up to 0.9 in. (20 mm), making it ideal for everyone regardless of their hand size.

There are also two interchangeable side panels so that you are able to change the footprint of the mouse to suit claw, palm or hybrid grip styles (which are you?), where it will also come with an adjustable back tilt angle in order for your palm to gain adequate support for gaming comfort and endurance. There is also an enhanced sensor technology which allows you to sweep your mouse at up to 8200 dpi, in addition to a dedicated, built-in dpi clutch trigger button to deliver on-the-fly dpi adjustment. It will cost you $129.99/€129.99 when it hits the global market before the year is over.

Tetris Alarm Clock

“I say, mate, isn’t it time for a game of Tetris?” That would be a great line to say out loud, assuming your living room or office cubicle (during your lunch break, of course, otherwise I am quite sure those productivity-driven bosses and upper levels of management will not be too amused) carries this cute looking £24.99 Tetris Alarm Clock. Yes sir, the name of the Tetris Alarm Clock says it all, but do give me the pleasure and opportunity to elaborate further on just what this modern day timepiece with a foot that is stuck in the past is capable of.

Ever since Tetris rolled out into the world of video games all the way back in 1984, the world has gone through different phases and genres of gaming, but the classic Tetris (with all the different variants up till today) has stood against the test of time. Well, the Tetris Alarm Clock pays homage to this particular classic title, functioning as a fully operational alarm clock at the same time. It comes with Tetrimino-shaped buttons, 12/24 hour settings, snooze, backlight and the official Tetris theme music as an alarm. Numbers on the clock face comprise of digital falling bricks, where each one will rotate into place as the time moves from minute to minute. Neat, huh?

Reward Tags – What do YOU have to Lose?

There is something worse than just losing some of your more expensive gadgets, like cameras or laptops, and that’s all the stuff that’s on them. I knew it was a mistake when I let my daughter take my camera on a field trip to the Statue of Liberty, yes, she left it on the bus and remembered it when she got home. I will decline to discuss that her grandmother actually chaperoned the trip and knew to watch out for the camera. I wasn’t as devastated by the camera as I was the hundreds of memories left on that thing…

Most of us have felt the sting of a loss like that, and we know in our hearts we’ll never see the stuff again, but these new reward tags are a great way to up the odds in your favor. These durable, adhesive, polyester tags attach to your favored valuable items and, by using a special code assigned to your item you can easily provide contact information as well as offering a brief message to whomever finds it, and further entice them to return it, by giving them a reward.

Users affix the tags to almost anything they might like to see again should they lose it, like cell phones, keys, iPads or even jackets or handbags, next, you create an account, activate your tags and then enter your message and information at the rewardtag.com website. People who find an item are directed to the same website by your tag and are able to find your message and reward via a unique ID code.

I think that people are basically good, AND that most people will log on to look up your message and the combination of a heartfelt personal appeal coupled with a monetary reward may actually be enough for you to get your stuff back. How about you? The tags are certainly inexpensive enough to give it a try, 15 tags for 20 bucks at rewardtag.com. Oh, BTW, we got the camera back… from a passenger that recognized us in the pictures.See? People really are good.

Highly confidential iPad and iPhone prototypes spotted in court documents

We all know just how Apple has been at the forefront of design in their products all these years, and here we are with what was dug up by The Verge – highly confidential prototypes of the iPad and the iPhone. Bear in mind that these are extremely early iPad and iPhone design prototypes, so they are very far from what you see today. The iPhone that you first saw all the way back in 2007 had smooth, curved angles, but those that were in the prototype stage sported an octagonal design – with sharp edges.

The prototypes were discovered in unredacted court exhibits which were filed on Thursday, and it did allow the general masses to be able to check out a rather rare look at Apple’s extremely secretive design process prior to arriving at the doorsteps of consumers, according to The Verge. The reason these prototypes were revealed was not because Apple volunteered to do so, but rather, they were forced to divulge the information after a July 30 jury trial against Samsung.
