Nike+ FuelBand – Because Lifes a Game

It’s official, Spring has sprung, not that we ever had much of a Winter. I look out the window this afternoon and my thoughts turn to bathing suits and barbecues, not necessarily in that order. The barbecue sounds great, slapping on a swimsuit after a winter that didn’t involve so much as a single sleigh ride or shoveling session, not so much.

Well it looks like Nike is at the ready to save us from ourselves with their new FuelBand, How active do you wish you were? Let your Nike+ FuelBand know and it will monitor your progress, track your time, steps taken, calories burned and keep tabs on your NikeFuel. Compete with others or against yourself, everyday can be a new challenge.

The Nike FuelBand even looks cool. A high tech bracelet that displays your exercise statistics in LED lights and with the companion app and the Nike+ website your fitness goals are destined to become a reality. Your FuelBand starts the day red and turns from red to yellow to green as you hit your daily fitness goals.

The FuelBand certainly looks more comfortable than some of those larger ”wrist fitness” devices and much more user friendly and accessible than other bands simply because it has a display and the ability to sync wirelessly, the Nike+ FuelBand comes in three sizes and can easily be adjusted for whether you’re wearing it on your right or left wrist. The Fuelband should be aavailable for around 149 bucks, but it is currently sold out at Nike.com  However, go to the website for more info or to sign up to be notified that they are back in stock. In the meantime, less barbecue and more exercise for me.

The One Touch Pizza Delivery Magnet – No Anchovies Please

The Pizza, the perfect “I don’t want to go anywhere” meal. It’s easy enough to pick up the phone, place your order and wait the agonizingly long 30 minutes or so till your pizza arrives. Devoured straight from the box, perhaps in front of the TV. Heck it just doesn’t get any better than that. Does it?

Well, some folks at The Red Tomato Pizza in Dubai thought it could get better, and easier and have introduced a  refrigerator magnet shaped as a cute little pizza box that functions as a one touch delivery button from your house – to their kitchen, provided of course that you live in Dubai!

The gadget works simply enough, by communicating via your Smartphone’s Bluetooth connection to place your order. The standard information, like address and phone numbers would have been previously provided online so after set up, it is indeed, one stop pizza shopping. You can request a call to confirm your order, but that just takes some of the fun out of it don’t you think?

Anyway, a pizza shop in Dubai isn’t going to enhance my next Saturday night pizza party, but I think their little gadget is a certainly a hint of some really cool things to come our way, but I do have a question, what if  this time I wanted the anchovies?

FireDock by Grace Digital

iPod, iPad and iPhone docks are dime a dozen, but what about numerous other tablets out there in the market? Well, thankfully, third party accessory manufacturers have cast a vision that is far wider than that of just the Apple realm. Take Grace Digital for instance – they are not exactly the type to roll out audio docks for portable media players and smartphones, but I guess they see more than enough potential in the Amazon Kindle Fire to go to the drawing board and make sure that something comes out of the meeting room at the end of the day. We are talking about the FireDock that targets the Amazon Kindle Fire.

This innovative charging speaker dock will come with full-range high quality stereo sound that was developed exclusively to enhance the Kindle Fire’s audio and video experience. Of course, the Kindle Fire is not the first device that one would think of when it comes to portable media players, but that does not mean one should just bypass it, considering its strategically placed price point as a tablet. More on the FireDock in the extended post.

The FireDock from will ship this coming July for $129.99 a pop, which might sound rather pricey, but hold on to your horses just yet. There must be a reason for this particular sticker price, and Grace Digital hopes to persuade skeptics by offering a USB port, headphone jack and power button that are located right at the bottom of the tablet. This is in stark contrast to majority of the 3.5mm speaker docks that are available in the market, where they do not offer charging while in use, and life is made difficult when it comes to accessing the device’s buttons.

The Grace FireDock will be able to juice up the Kindle Fire while hooked on AC power, and there is also the optional (which is obviously sold separately) lithium-ion battery-pack that paves the way for maximum portability. The rotating cradle of the FireDock is able to holds the 7–inch tablet in a secure manner, regardless of whether you want to place it in horizontal or vertical viewing angles.

HeatSync 1200 ultra slim case has iPhone docking station

A-Tech Fabrication has rolled out the HeatSync 1200 ultra slim case, where the main selling point of this puppy would be the option to throw in an iPhone docking station, now how about that? Most of the time, one would have thought that iPhone docks tend to come in the form of an alarm clock or a speaker system, but a working computer chassis? This is definitely something different to consider, and as a mark of respect to make sure the US’ economy continues to be stimulated from within, the HeatSync 1200 ultra slim case is proud to be 100% made in the USA. It boasts a passively cooled design, so you can be sure that without the presence of any fans within, it is going to run whisper quiet.

The mSATA SSD has been integrated into the motherboard itself, while large aluminum fins ensure the optimization of natural convection cooling. There is also an integrated voltage regulator heat conductor that accompanies a fanless external AC power adapter. You can choose from either black or a silver anodized finish. Sounds like a dream, no? It is going to take some time before such a device takes off in a big way, I reckon, how about you?

Zombies, Run! – and Don’t Look Back!

We don’t often write about apps. Its only when a particular app enhances your exercise routine, tells a compelling story and involves brain hungry zombies that the story begs to be told. While in search of an engaging exercise app, I came across Zombies, Run! and we haven’t stopped talking about zombies ever since.

Zombies, Run! is a fitness application and its not your ordinary post apocalypse kill-the-zombies game. In Zombies, Run! The undead are on the prowl, and out to get YOU. The story begins as you bring in supplies to a safe zone in a zombie infested area, a helicopter crash leaves you stranded outside the compound, but in radio contact with the base, they warn you of the zombies approaching, you can hear them groaning, and yes, you want to run like hell. So lace up your sneakers and get moving! GPS lets you keep track of distance traveled, and a timer lets you know how fast you’re going.

As you run, the story continues and you are entertained and engaged for your entire run. If brain hungry zombies chasing you is not motivation enough, as you run you are also completing missions and picking up supplies along the way. These supplies help you enhance the compound and complete your missions.

The game can be used with GPS, but for treadmill runs you can opt to use your accelerometer instead. The company has kept good on their promises to add additional missions and seem to be constantly improving on an already fun and entertaining fitness concept.

I decided to test the application at night, and that did add to the scare factor. I have always said that I hated to exercise and that the only time you would find me running is if someone was chasing me with a knife… well add to that – flesh eating zombies, they seem to work pretty well too. The app is a bit pricey at $7.99 but it is an exercise prograand a roleplaying game and a story, so I can’t complain check out zombiesrungame.com for more information.

Bandai outs their own robot dog

Getting a dog is more often than not a dream of many a kid, but as parents find out after a while, only the most disciplined of children are able to ensure that the pooch in their possession remains under the right kind of care and responsibility, while majority of the other kids tend to leave the furkid in the care of parents, but maximizing the playtime potential instead. Bandai figured out that there might be a way to get your little one more involved in taking care of the dog – that is, by introducing a robot dog instead.

This particular robot dog will need a smartphone to function as its head and brain, and some might even say that it closely resembles Aibo’s general behavior pattern. The iPhone app will definitely be free of charge (in Japan, at least), where some of the other antics it is capable of include walking, dancing, singing, snapping photos and recording videos – and even better news is, it will not be able to chew on any shoes or slippers, too. No idea on whether it will arrive anywhere else outside of Japan or not though.

Salt Water Fuel Cell Giant Arachnoid Kit – Yikes!

I am sure most of you remember OWI’s award winning Salt Water Fuel Cell Car. Well I have to tell you that the second generation of this awesome technology appears to be that much cooler, unless your afraid of spiders! The Salt Water Fuel Cell Giant Arachnoid Kit gives once again gives our kids the opportunity to learn about new forms of clean energy, and they get to build and power their very own toy and then feed it some saltwater and watch it scurry away! *shudder*

This environmentally friendly concept seems to steer us in the right direction. Everyday our kids are learning about ways to help protect our Earth and keep our world clean. This nifty little guy demonstrates to our kids a much more effective utilization of our natural resources and its fun at the same time. Can’t go wrong there.

Anyway, almost all kids love a little creepiness and our eight-legged friend here certainly has ample “let’s scare mom” factor. After assembling and activating the fuel cell module with a saltwater mixture, the magnesium metal sheet (3 sheets included) will operate the Spider for up to 7 hours. If having a giant spider crawling around your living room ceases to be appealing, one needs to simply take out the fuel cell module and rinse with tap water and dry, no insecticides required.

The manufacturer tells us that all the materials used in this kit are environmentally safe and clean, non-toxic and carry no disposal concerns. It will not produce heat, so it is completely safe for child’s play. Available now for pre-order at owirobot.com for well under 20 bucks.
