The Start Your Engines Alarm Clock

If your love of cars isn’t being expressed quite enough in your current home décor, you might check out this alarm.  There have been other alarms similar to this one, but luckily this one is a little cheaper than the others I’ve seen.  If you’re on the lookout for a gift for a guy impossible to buy for and he has a love for cars this would be an easy gift to pick up.  I’m sure he’d get a kick out of waking up to the sound of a high-powered V8 engine.

Although frankly I’m not sure how easy it would be to wake up to the sound of an engine.  It’s not that it couldn’t possibly be loud enough.  The issue more is if you live in the city, the sound of your alarm might blend into the traffic noise you’re used to hearing outdoors.  Luckily the engine noise will grow in pitch and intensity until you turn it off.  The clock also includes an AM/FM radio and can be powered by either the AC adapter or AA batteries.  You can purchase it for $29.95 on Hammacher Schlemmer.

Car Windshield Mount with Twin Holders

Most of us don’t just have one gadget we keep in our car.  For many there’s GPS, cellphone and sometimes an iPod too.  Which means it would be nice to have a device that held more of our electronics.  Instead of having several holders that clutter up your car.  Well with this car windshield mount it will hold two of your gadgets.  Ideally I wish it held three, but two at least covers a couple of your important gadgets.  It could hold your cellphone and your GPS or your cellphone and your iPod.  It’s just all depending on which you think is important to be visible.

Although GPS is an item that seems far more effective when you can actually see it.  I suppose there is the possibility that you could put your windshield mount for your GPS above this one and have all three up.  Then again, that might eat the entire windshield of your car.  Each arm for each gadget is adjustable, so you can make sure it’s pointed at an angle where you can clearly see the screen.  You can pick this up for $25.99 on USB Fever.

Cardboard iPhone 3G dock

Want to do your bit for the environment, but have no idea where to start? Well, here’s one - if you own an iPhone 3G but lack a dock, you can always head on here to print it out in PDF format (A4 size, of course), place it on a piece of durable cardboard and start cutting it out with a pair of sharp scissors or a craft knife and voila - you have your very own DIY cardboard iPhone dock. It is highly recommended to use a 270gsm cardboard for best effect, and needless to say this iPhone dock is just like its electronic counterpart - both aren’t waterproof, although the former can be left out to dry and reused in the event of an accidental spill while you’ll need to buy a new one with the latter.

Coffee Cup Power Inverter charges your gadgets

Keeping all of your gadgets charged and ready to go can be a pain when you’re always busy.  Well now if you need to charge a gadget that doesn’t have a car charger attachment, you can still manage to charge it up.  It will also be great for those times when you’ve left your car charger for your cellphone someplace.  You could easily thieve the wall charger from home and pop it in your car.  Just put this cup into a cup holder, then plug it into your car charger and you have two three prong outlets to play with.

Along with the three prong outlets, it also features a USB port to charge other gadgets like your iPod.  Which means if you’re a gadget addict, you can charge three of them at once while you’re on your way to work.  The cup is 6” tall and will fit in standard cup holders.  Being about the size of a coffee cup, it would likely manage to fit in the cup holder of a VW Beetle.  Which trust me, is a grand accomplishment in itself.  You can pick up the charger for $29.95 on Think Geek.

Car Seat made out of Carbon Fiber

Car seats for your kids are never an exciting thing to purchase.  They rarely feature designs different from every other car seat developed in the past twenty years.  Yes, they might have more safety features, but usually you’re going to get stuck with some pastel car seat probably featuring Winnie the Pooh or some Disney princess.  Which seems a bit unfair once you think about it.  After all, your kid doesn’t really care what their car seat looks like till their later years of sitting in one.  So why not buy a car seat that will look attractive in your car.  Well one designer has decided to create a car seat inspired by racing gear.

The designer, Rory Craig will be pitching his design idea to Sparco Motor Sports.  They are known for their racing inspired seats and safety harnesses.  The car seat will work for your child through all three of the stages they will go through in a car seat.  Which means you’d never need to buy a new car seat.  The body of the seat is made out of carbon fiber which means it will be very lightweight and strong.  It took the designer $4,000 to create the seat, hopefully the next model he creates won’t be quite so expensive.

The Houdini Automotive Escape Tool

If you’re really big on vehicle safety, you might pick up one of these Houdini Automotive Escape Tools.   It would also be great for parents sending their teen drivers off into the world.  No, it can’t save them from everything, but at least they’ll be prepared for certain situations.  The Houdini tool will help them out when their window needs broken, they need cut out of their seatbelt, need an emergency flashlight or need to call for help.  There is also the Pro version of the tool that was created for police officers and firefighters.

It’s a bulkier version, and it doesn’t have a whistle to call for help, but it will likely hold up through multiple uses a bit better.  The regular version has a small blade for the seatbelt, which also has a cover for when it’s not in use.  To break the window, just put the window breaker end of the tool against the window and hold it there till it shatters.  Then of course the LED light is pretty self explanatory and the whistle is on the opposite end of the blade and window breaker.  You can pick up the pro for $39.95 and the regular Houdini for $24.95.

Skyaak Wing Ring Glider, betcha can’t make just one!

From the mind of the Canadian artist Michael Gaudet comes a cool new D.I.Y. toy. It’s fun!

The Skyaak Canadian Ring-Wing Glider features two cone-shaped wings on opposite ends of a central weighted shaft that you toss around with your buddies for fun.

Skyaak, from Canada with love comes a great new concept in do it yourself toys.

The Skyaak Deuce is the do it yourself model of the Skyaak. All you need to do is click the buy link to download the .pdf for $2.00. Cut it out, decorate it (if you want to, I’d recommend nice bright colors, when it spins through the air it looks great).

All you need are some scissors, tape, and a couple of paper clips to assemble it, and you can be tossing it around in 15 to 20 minutes for your first one (then as you make more, you’ll get a bit faster).

It’s great since it works well inside or out (read: toss it at your cubicle mates). When you get better at tossing it about, move up to the professional model he has at his site as well.

The Skyaak ring-wing glider has had a few incarnations, but this is the best “intro” to a toy ever. For $2.00 you just use Paypal, pay your 2 bucks and download the Skyaak deuce. Then you print it out, decorate it (come on, you know you want to decorate it). Then you cut it out, assemble it, and start tossing it around.

Here’s the fun part, it’s the midpoint between a Frisbee and a javelin.

Have a fling with Skyaak!

Photo Identification Ignition Interlock device

Smart Start, Inc. from Irving has recently rolled out the new Photo Identification Ignition Interlock device that could potentially help save lives on the road. What does it do exactly? Well, this device uses patented technology which remembers photographs of the interlock user and associating it with an ignition interlock device. This device is smart enough to know who is actually taking the breath test, and is almost 100% foolproof since it works on each and every test, including attempted tests. Just to get a better idea of how secure and effective it is, Texas Judges have required 250 offenders to install the Photo-ID interlock device as an additional sanction on the SSI 20/20 Interlock device since September 1st this year.

According to Lamar Ball, CEO of Smart Start, “Drunk driving is preventable; we are committed to saving lives and making our roadways safe. Assisting in the prevention of the needless incidence of drunk driving is our mission, and research shows interlocks are a proven tool in reducing DWI recidivism.”

This futuristic tool is a commitment by SSI to display their ongoing commitment when it comes to helping authorities monitor interlock offenders. This technology has proven itself to be a major step forward for ignition interlock technology, and it will provide answers to the million dollar question: “How do I know who took the interlock test?” Guess there is no fooling technology, but what happens when one wears one of those masks found in the Mission Impossible series that match the exact photograph used? Will it be able to circumvent the safety system then?

The device can be found all over Texas, and SSI will be offering free installation from now until January next year, so might as well take advantage of this three-month window period to take full advantage of the situation.
